FIRST ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON IPR
The industrial sector, including the pharmaceutical and healthcare sector in India is yet to recognize the full potential of the IP rights in all its dimensions – from generation to preservation and protection. The healthcare academia and industry have no formal training that is provided in academic programs at undergraduate and is extremely limited at post-graduate levels.

The G-CEIP initiative to spread the knowledge of IPR is mooted by Dr. Umesh Banakar, Professor and President of Banakar Consulting Services and also an eminent alumnus of GCP. G-CEIP is presently housed in the premises of Goa College of Pharmacy under the able leadership of Prin. Dr. Gopal Krishna Rao.
Experts in the field were invited as resource faculty to update delegates on the recent advances related to various aspects of IP from generation to preservation and protection. The Program attracted over 100 delegates from the industry and academia from India and overseas.
This conference was first of its kind which focused on academic advancement, continuous update and upgradation of knowledgebase in IP matters and providing IP services to the industry in India with an objective to provide such services globally
The program was held on Nov. 14-15, 2016 which was inaugurated on 14th Nov 2016 at 9:15AM at the hands of Hon. Secretary for Education, Ms. Nila Mohanan, while Mr. Vivek Kamat, Director-DTE, Mr. Rajendra Naik, President of GCP Alumni Association, Mr. Prasad Tamba, President-CDAG, Mr. Sanjay Priolkar, President-GPMA and Mr. S.S. Sardessai, ex Dy. Director-FDA were the Guests of Honour.
The first day included lectures by Dr. Sanjay Toshniwal, Director, Marathwada, Pharma Cluster & Director, Vidharba, Institute of Tech., Aurangabad; Dr. Chandrashekhar N.S., CGM - Strategic Business, Yasham Speciality Ingreds. Pvt. Ltd. Mumbai; Mr. Michael Gaertner, Sr. Partner; James Peterka, ESQ, Partner, Locke Lord, LLP, Chicago, Illinios, USA; Mr. Charles Klein, Sr. Partner Winston & Strawn, Washington D.C., USA; Mr. Sam Park, Partner Winston & Strawn, Washington D.C., USA; Dr. Ganesh Jadhav, General Manager Product Innovation, Sun Pharma; Dr. Rajiv Shah; Global Head - IP Torrent Pharm. Ltd, Ahmedabad and Ms. Asmita Shinde, Proprietor, Asmita & Co. Access, Offices Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai who spoke on topics like “Intellectual Property Rights: Innovation, Economics & Access”, “Conducting Patentability Search and Evaluating Results”, “Indirect Infringement in Pharmaceutical Patent Litigation”, “Biosimilar Litigation in the United States”, “IPRs in Pharmaceutical and Biosimilar Cases”, “Entrepreneurial Patent Management in Pharma Industry: Emphasis on Inter Partes Review (IPR)”, “Patent Litigation: Recent Case Studies” and “Fundamentals of Trademark and Copyright”, respectively. These lectures were very well received by our delegates. The lectures were followed by the panel discussion moderated by Dr. Umesh Banakar.
The second day included lectures by Mr Scott Feder, Sr. Partner Locke Lord, LLP, Chicago, Illinios, USA and Dr. Shaber Ali, Associate Professor, Head of Department, LL.M. and Research Coordinator, V.M. Salgaonkar College of Law, Panaji, who spoke on topics like “Select Topics on Patent Invalidity” and “Pillars of Patent and Non-Registrable Patents in India”, respectively.
The salient features of the program were that it is the first of its kind in India which met the current needs of Industry and Academic Professionals where they got an opportunity to listen to worldwide experts in Intellectual Property (IP) matters and discuss IP issues with a Panel of International Experts on IP matters.
The event concluded with the concluding remarks by Dr. Umesh Banakar, who has initiated this program in collaboration with Goa College of Pharmacy. The Principal of Goa College of Pharmacy, Dr. Gopal Krishna Rao acknowledged the delegates and the contributions of everyone in making the event a successful one.

The principle focus of G-CEIP is Recognize and Protect Scientific Discovery with the Rights it Deserves !! Experts in the field across the globe were invited as resource faculty to address the recent advances related to various aspects of IP from generation to preservation and protection. The Program was attended by over 100 delegates from the industry and academia from India and overseas.
The Inaugural programme was held on 16th November 2017 in the gracious presence of Hon. Chief Minister, Shri. Manohar Parrikar Ji.
Mr. Vivek Kamat, Director- Directorate of Technical Education, Mr. Ajit Singh, Chairman, Associated Capsules Global, Mr. Rajendra Naik, Dy. Director-FDA and Mr. Sanjay Priolkar, President GPMA were the Guests of Honour.
The programme for the 16th & 17th Nov, included talks by eminent speakers being experts on IP matters from India and the globe. The first of its kind in India, the conference meets the current needs of Industry and Academic Professionals where the delegates got an opportunity to listen to worldwide experts in Intellectual Property (IP) matters and discuss IP issues with a Panel of International Experts on IP matters.
The conference focused on overview to pharma patenting, key aspects of patent law, recent case studies from international experts and patent challenges at the PTAB-Focus on Inter Parte reviews (IPRs) in Pharma.
The 2nd Annual International Conference initiated and instituted the “Research Showcase Presentation” session – a platform for research scientists to showcase their research finding(s) and explore its IP potential. The research scholars were invited to present their work (poster presentation) and open it for advice/thoughts from the participants for their inputs as to the IP potential of their research work. The poster session was held with a focus that the scholar will have a very fulfilling experience along with a sense of accomplishment and above all motivation about their work along with the value of their work. The best three posters were awarded.
The first day session included lectures by Mr. Nate Louwagie, Carlson & Caspers, LLP, Minneapolis, MN USA; Mr. Gary Speier, Carlson & Caspers, LLP, Minneapolis, MN USA; Dr. Gopa Kumar Nair, Gopakumar Nair Associates, Mumbai; Mr. James Peterka, Locke Lord, LLP, Chicago, Illinios, USA; Mr. Scott Feder, Locke Lord, LLP, Chicago, Illinios, USA and Ms. Smita Ramdas, Dr. Reddy’s Lab Ltd., Hyderabad, who spoke on topics like “Inter Partes Review (IPR) vs. District Court Litigation in the United States”, “Infringement and Validity Opinions”, “Patent Issues relating to Drug Substances”, “Patent challenges at the PTAB- Focus on Inter Parte Reviews (IPRs) in Pharma” respectively. The lectures were well received by the delegates. This was followed by a panel discussion by all the speakers moderated by Dr. Umesh Banakar.
The second day session included lectures by Ms. Asmita Shinde, Asmita & Co, Mumbai; Dr. Shailesh Patel, Schiff Hardin, USA; Dr. Gurpreet Singh Walia, Fisher Broyles, LLP New York, USA; Dr. Sumesh Reddy, Cipla ltd, Mumbai; Dr. Chandrasekhar N.S, Yasham IP Services, Mumbai; Ms. Whitney Remily, Haynes & Boone LLP, Washington D.C, USA and Dr. Shaber Ali, Associate Professor, Head of Department, LL.M. and Research Coordinator, V.M. Salgaonkar College of Law, Panaji, who spoke on “Design Patents and Trademarks - Application process in the USA”, “Double Patenting”, “Product Selection to Launch: The Role of In-house IP Function”, “Patent litigations- Recent cases”, “Post Grant Review—Tactics and Strategy in the Hatch-Waxman Context”, “Concept of IPR and non-Patentable inventions in Pharma Industry” respectively.
The conference concluded with an address by Dr. Umesh Banakar who has initiated this program in collaboration with Goa College of Pharmacy. The closing remarks were given by Dr. Gopal Krishna Rao, Principal, Goa College of Pharmacy who summarized the 2 days event and thanked all the contributors for making the event a great success.

The chief guest of the 3rd Annual International Conference was Ms Nila Mohanan, IAS, Secretary - Education, Govt. of Goa. The guest of honour of the program was Ms Jyoti Sardesai, Director, Food and Drug Administration, Govt. of Goa.
Experts in the field across the globe were invited as resource faculty to update delegates on the recent advances related to various aspects of IP from generation to preservation and protection. The Program attracted over 180 delegates from the industry and academia from India and overseas.
The Research Showcase Presentation [RSP] Session provided a platform for students and faculty to present their original research. G-CEIP aimed at providing an opportunity for research scientists to showcase their research finding(s) and explore its IP potential. Over 30 researchers presented their research work and the top three Research Showcase Presentations were recognized at the event through an Expert review Process.
The 3rd Annual International Conference entitled “Intellectual Property: Prosecution to litigation, Part II: Protecting Inventions and Copyrights” gave an insight to patent litigations in India, key aspects of copyright, patent prosecutions ans national policies.

The program concluded with the concluding remarks by Dr. Umesh Banakar, who has initiated this program in collaboration with Goa College of Pharmacy. Dr. Gopal Krishna Rao, Principal of Goa College of Pharmacy acknowledged the contributors for the sucessful outcome of the program. This program provided a great platform wherein intellectuals from academia, industry and the research fields shared their knowledge and experience in the field of Intellectual Property. The Research Showcase Presentation [RSP] Session provided a platform for students and faculty to present their original research. G-CEIP aimed at providing an opportunity for research scientists to showcase their research finding(s) and explore its IP potential. Over 32 researchers presented their research work and the top three Research Showcase Presentations were recognized at the event through an Expert review Process.
This program initiated the “CAMPAIGN 2020 & BEYOND” with a vision to induce a spirit of inquiry in translating theoretical science into innovative products. The campaign stated a futuristic FIVE year plan to reach every nook and corner of the country by 2025, spreading the knowledge of IPR and enlightening young minds to convert their research work into innovative outcomes.
The program concluded with the wrap up remarks by Dr. Umesh Banakar, who has initiated this program in collaboration with Goa College of Pharmacy. Dr. Gopal Krishna Rao, Principal of Goa College of Pharmacy acknowledged the contributors for the sucessful outcome of the program. This program provided valuable inputs on various topics that gave useful insights to the delegates about asserting exclusive rights to intellectual property and its economical benefits in the long run. The program ended on a very successful note.
FIFTH ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON IPR

It was a MILESTONE EVENT as G-CEIP hosted its fifth annual international conference. Due to covid pandemic, conference was organised ONLINE in collaboration with Group Pharmaceuticals. Mr. Sunil Chiplunkar, Vice President, Bussiness Development of Group Pharmaceuticals and his team supported in hosting the event ONLINE.

An overwhelming response of 31 abstracts were received. The researchers got an opportunity to present their work via an ONLINE ORAL PRESENTATION in the presence of the panel. This preliminary round was conducted from 1st Dec 2020 to 5th Dec 2020. The panel of reviewers shortlisted 10 best research works out of the 31. Out of the 10 research presentations, the BEST FIVE presented their research work ONLINE, in the presence of eminent speakers and delegates. Out of these presentations, TOP THREE presentations were declared the Winners.

These topics helped the delegates in understanding the strategies and challenges one could face while protecting and defending IPR and thus prepare them with possible solutions in handling such challenges. The online mode of the conference helped large number of participants to avail the maximum benefit of the program, inspite of the pandemic situation and thus proved to be a successful one.
